As children we were all beautifully poised. During the first years of our lives we learned how to be in balance with gravity in every activity that we undertook. In other words, we learned how to use ourselves – our bodies, our wholes -- and deal with the external world. This in turn allows freedom of movement and facilitates an amazing openness and interest in the world around us.

However, as soon as we begin with school, we are taught "what to do" and start to interfere with the natural balance that we have developed. We are required to sit for hours on end and learn lots of things -- write, count, score a goal, play an instrument -- but we don't learn how to make good use of ourselves and we slowly lose the poise that we had organically constructed when we were younger.

The Alexander Technique (AT) helps you to unlearn the unconscious patterns of tension that you have developed; it helps you to stop your habitual harmful reactions in your daily life and can bring you back to the balance and freedom of movement!

What is the fundamental misuse of ourselves? We tense our neck muscles so the head loses its balance on the top of the spine and exerts pressure on the cervical column. Basically, we shorten our stature. The funny thing is that we can do this unconsciously the whole day long because it has become a habit.
Very often our organism does not function well because this repeated misuse!
Symptoms of this misuse include back and neck pain, tendinitis, depression, lack of energy, voice problems, breathing problems, insecurity, circulation and digestion problems ....
